Story Thieves Quotes
"No, not that question. The real question was this: Was there anything in the world that could possibly be more boring than fractions?"
"Being locked in a room with no windows or doors, without anything to do, while wearing a blindfold and being forced to name various types of trees? That’d be pretty boring, but not fractions boring."
"If only the bell would ring early from some freak electrical surge. Sure, it had never happened before, but Owen was nothing if not optimistic."
"You either get the candy and leave me alone, or you don’t get the candy and leave me alone."
"His guilt pushed Owen up out of his seat and after Bethany to apologize or make a joke."
"It felt so good to be out that he walked that much quicker to his mother’s library."
"And all Owen had to do to make it happen was convince Bethany to take him."
"Why imagine a world in your head when you could just go visit another one in a book?"
"Bethany’s mouth dropped open, and she shook her head over and over."
"I’d just like a minute of your time, if it’s all the same to you."
"You cannot leave, Bethany," the Magister told her, his eyes glowing. "I must have your power!"
"I don’t know what you want," she said, words just tumbling out of her mouth. "Please just let me out. Let me go, please ! I don’t want this. I need to fix it, before it gets worse, whatever’s happening. Please!"
"We won’t live through this," Charm said, clicking her ray guns on in a tough, awesome way. "I’d prefer not to have to do all the work this time. Try to hold up your end of the fight, will you?"
"I believe you may not be treating this request seriously," he said, his tone sliding down in temperature. "Perhaps you should take some time to consider it, along with Jonathan Porterhouse."
"I’m glad to see you’re awake," the Magister said. "We have quite a lot to talk about."
"What are you doing?" Kiel shouted from somewhere in front of her. "Don’t hurt her!"
"There’s not really a hurry, is there?" Owen asked, his eyes passing over Kiel’s winged cat, Alphonse, who was currently curled up by the spell book.
"It’ll take them a while to follow us," Charm said, standing up from the pilot’s seat. "Repairs are going, so we should have a little time."
"That’s going to cost me at chore time when this is all over," Kiel said. He turned to Bethany and winked. "Look, I get it. You’re impressed with me, and probably dumbfounded. It happens. But don’t just sit there. Maybe do something a little more useful than jumping into blank sheets of—"
"If anyone ever reads this," he said to no one, "I hope they find out just how dumb it was to jump into a book. Apparently, you just get thrown into jail and left to rot. Don’t do it. Let me be a lesson. At least my life will have meant something!"
"Tubes all around them began to slam shut, like prison cells locking."
"You better hope we don’t need protection from viruses."
"I seem to be doing all the heavy lifting around here."
"So read the numbers before you touch them."
"It’s actually just a different way of saying ‘on’ and ‘off.’"
"Everything else here is built off of those two ideas. On, off, one, zero. Get it?"
"I’m this close to just making you forget all of this, if you don’t calm down."
"It’s not supposed to be me. I just . . . I just wanted to go on an adventure. Is that so wrong?"
"Watch where you put your hands, by the way. The hay isn’t just for sleeping on."
"I think you might have been right, before. About the Magister, and how he’d use the Source of Magic to destroy Quanterium. I never thought he’d be capable of it, but look at what he’s doing." - Kiel
"It’s about time you did too if we’re going to have any chance here." - Kiel
"Embrace the impossible! Find the magic within! BE MORE FICTIONAL." - Kiel
"We read about you to be with you, to walk in someone else’s shoes, to experience another life." - Bethany
"You should see their greatest heroes. All came from nothing. It’s almost a cliché there now." - Dr. Verity
"I don’t have any misconceptions about what we’re about to get into, Kiel. Trust me on that." - Charm
"None of this is fair. It isn’t fair that you’re a clone, or what happened to my parents and sister. It isn’t fair that so many of your people are suffering, or that the people of Quanterium ever allowed Dr. Verity to take over." - Charm
"I can’t imagine anyone who wasn’t named Kiel Gnomenfoot ever doing that." - Charm
"We read about people in impossible situations because we’re dealing with horrible things ourselves, in our lives. And you going through your story helps us with ours, no matter how yours ends." - Bethany
